People’s increased mobility has turned school into a multicultural place. Children and young people with a history of migration need to acquire the language of the host country and, at the same time, continue to cultivate their language of origin. Most Heritage Language teachers are devoted to the latter goal. However, their teaching methods should — as far as is possible — be in line with the teaching methods experienced by their students in their mainstream schools. This is exactly where the series “Materials for Heritage Language Teaching” can provide the necessary support to Heritage Language teachers.
The volume “Foundations and Backgrounds” presents the key aspects of current pedagogy, didactics and methodology in the Western and Northern European countries. The workbooks provide practical teaching suggestions and planning models for the various areas of language teaching.
