Promoting intercultural competence
Materials for heritage language teaching: Didactic suggestions 4
Intercultural competence is the ability to orientate oneself in various languages and cultures. This is a key competence within a multicultural society. Together with mainstream schools, heritage language courses must contribute to the development of this competence.
The volume “Promoting intercultural competence” deals with experiences of migration, with questions about identity, culture and linguistic diversity. Issues of living together in a multicultural society, the sorts of conflicts that can arise as a result and democratic solutions to these conflicts are also discussed. Teachers can find numerous background texts and sample lessons.
